La Vista Video Production

The North Orange County ROP Video Production class at La Vista/La Sierra High Schools, taught by Mr. Joey Flores, provides students with hands-on experience in the exciting world of video production. The program is designed to equip students with the technical skills and creative expertise needed to excel in media-related careers. Mr. Flores' video production program is not only about learning technical skills but also emphasizes career readiness, creativity, and community involvement, making it a cornerstone of La Vista and La Sierra’s educational offerings.

Courses

1. The Art of Video Production (Concentrator) – Open to students from both La Vista and La Sierra High Schools, this course introduces the fundamentals of video production, including camera techniques, editing, and storytelling.

2. Video Production (Capstone) – This advanced course is available to students who have completed the concentrator course and focuses on professional-level production techniques and project-based learning.

3. Video Production Honors (Capstone) – Exclusively available to La Vista High School 12th grade students starting in the 2024/2025 Academic Year, this honors-level course offers in-depth study and higher-level projects, preparing students for industry standards and certifications.

Course Highlights

PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs: Students collaborate on storytelling projects that reach a national audience.

  • TED-Ed Club: Students engage in public speaking and presentation projects, honing their communication and video production skills.

  • Certiport Adobe Premiere Professional & Adobe After Effects Certifications: The program offers the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications, preparing students for post-secondary education or immediate entry into the workforce.

Lions Roar

The program also celebrates a collaboration between students, faculty, and administration through the production of the *Lion’s Roar*, a "End of the Week" video wrap-up, and daily announcements. These productions have been recognized in the school’s WASC review as exemplary areas of student engagement and professional development.

Opportunities

Students in the video production program have access to unique experiences that extend their learning beyond the classroom:

  • Academy Museum of Motion Pictures - Careers in Film Summit: Students gain exposure to industry professionals and explore career paths in the film industry.

  • America’s Got Talent Behind the Scenes Telecast: Students participate in exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences, gaining insight into live television production.

  • North Orange County ROP Production and Managerial Arts Showcase: Students participate in an all day professional development with industry professionals.

  • FJUHSD Board of Trustee Meetings: Students participate with the production of the LiveStream broadcast of the Board of Trustees monthly meetings.

  • FJUHSD - Sports Program: Students are able to collaborate with the ROP Video Production classes from Buena Park High School and Sunny Hills High School to provide LiveStream coverage and photography coverage of all Fullerton Joint Union High School District games.
